| FLASH Update Download for Theater Grand IV or
Ultimate Receiver II |
|
The Sunfire Theater Grand IV and Ultimate Receiver II both
contain FLASH memory which can be upgraded to the latest software via
two different methods: RS232 download or CD playback. The CD playback
requires a special music CD containing the upgrade software
'watermarked' (merged with the audio in an imperceptible way) onto the
disc. We will be providing these discs for future major software
releases only.
The RS232 download application is available right here, right
now, by clicking the link below. A PC running Windows 95 or later and a
serial cable are required. Please read the following instructions
before downloading and running the application.
|
1.
|
Use a standard
Male-Female straight through DB-9 extension cable (available from
almost any computer store or from Radio Shack as # 26-117) to connect
your computer's COM or SERIAL port to the RS-232 port of your Theater
Grand IV. |
| 2. |
Your Theater Grand
IV or Ultimate Receiver II must be plugged in, but does not need to be
powered on. If it is off, it will power up automatically when the
download process begins. |
| 3. |
NOTE: You may need to disable your
Palm Pilot's "HotSync" or similar software before proceeding.
If you have a Palm Pilot or similar device with "HotSync" or its
equivalent, this software 'seizes' control of a serial port on your
machine and prevents the Sunfire software from accessing that port. Use
another port or disable HotSync.
Now, double-click the "Sunfire TGIV-Ultimate Receiver II
RS232 FLASH Update Vx.xx.exe" application icon on the PC connected to
the Theater Grand IV or Ultimate Receiver II. The 'AUTO' mode will
detect active COM ports on your PC and automatically locate the Theater
Grand IV or Ultimate Receiver II and begin downloading code. You can
manually choose a COM port if you wish.
|
| 4. |
This process takes
several minutes. |
| 5. |
When completed,
simply quit the program and follow the instructions on the front panel
display of your Theater Grand IV or Ultimate Receiver II. |
| |
NOTE: Each new release of software includes all
enhancements from prior releases. You may load the most recent
release without loading interim releases.

Software revision history:
V4.25
|
- Fixed bug where 1-4 second interrupt in DD5.1 or DTS
5.1 causes mode to stick in muted analog rather than return to digital
feed if 2 channel mode is Stereo or Neo:6.
|
| V4.23 |
- Fixed menu line item title for POS to be DIST on
front panel for speaker distances
- Fixed RSB displaying as L on front panel during
distance adjustment.
- Fixed RS232 volume level readback to match sent value.
- Fixed volume set to allow max level during rapid
volume changes or volume absolute setting from RS232 (only applicable
when volume level is ranged out from dsp level shifting).
- Fixed Mains forcing to Large after sub noise cal if
noise cal menu is down to one page and Mains are small.
- Fixed seamless transition bug (DolbyD5.1 to DTS
NEO:6) that caused Neo6 to play in only left surround and right
surround.
|
V4.21
|
- Fixed problem: If the main IR window is shut off and
you are using a remote sensor with our remote control and press volume
up/down it launches the setup window. You can't leave the setup window
without soft powering down and back up again.
- Fixed problem: If you change the default Mode for a
given input in the Input Setup Menu from LAST to any specific mode such
as Party, Stereo, etc, then try to use the Mode up/down buttons, you
end up with two mini loops of modes depending on whether you press Mode
Up repeatedly or Mode Down repeatedly. The loops are seperated by the
default mode choice.
|
| V4.18 |
- Fixed RS232 bug - if volume is -inf, unit wouldn't
respond to abs volume command via RS232, also now broadcasts *11U in
front of volume level when polled.
|
| V4.17 |
- Fixes Mains speaker size being forced Large after Sub
Noise generator is played.
- Fixed OSD-Component out compatibility with plasma
monitors (double sync).
- Fixed volume display on OSD
- Fixed assorted RS-232 issues and Zone2 mute issues.
|
| V4.10 |
- Eliminated all video muting during OSD pop-up
operation. You now have glitch-free OSD pop-ups.
- Several other subtle enhancements to menus and trims.
This release is highly recommended, as your current software may not
contain every one of the features listed below.
Note that the following were not all highlighted in
early printings of the owner's manual.
- Dolby Digital modes available during Dolby Digital
5.1 playback include: Dolby Digital + PLIIx Music for Surround Back
operation, Dolby Digital + PLIIx Movie for Surround Back operation,
Dolby Digital EX, as well as basic Dolby Digital for 5.1 playback. The
MODE keys allow these choices during Dolby Digital 5.1 playback.
- Added playback of DTS 5.1 sources through Surround
Back speakers. This is selectable using the MODE key when a DTS 5.1
source is playing.
- Sub trims are retained on a per-mode (DTS, Dolby
Digital, or two-channel source) basis. That is, if you adjust the
subwoofer trim in any DTS mode, it will retain that setting for the
next time you use a DTS source. The same is true for Dolby Digital. All
DTS modes share the same subwoofer trim. Similarly, all Dolby Digital
modes share a single subwoofer trim. And all two-channel source modes
(Stereo, Party, Neo:6, Pro Logic IIx, etc.) share a single subwoofer
trim.
