| FLASH Update Download for TGP-5 or TGR-3 |
|
The Sunfire Theater Grand Processor - 5 and Theater
Grand
Receiver - 3 both contain FLASH memory which can be upgraded to the
latest software via two different methods: RS232 download or CD
playback. The CD playback requires a special music CD containing the
upgrade software 'watermarked' (merged with the audio in an
imperceptible way) onto the disc. We will be providing these discs for
future major software releases only.
To find out what version software the TGP5/TGR3 has, enter the menu:
MAIN MENU -> SETTINGS -> SOFTWARE-> REVISION LIST -> MAIN CODE X.XX
The RS232 download application is available right here, right
now, by clicking the link below. A PC running Windows 95 or later and a
serial cable are required. Please read the following instructions
before downloading and running the application.
1.
|
Use a standard
Male-Female straight through DB-9 extension cable (available from
almost any computer store or from Radio Shack as # 26-117) to connect
your computer's COM or SERIAL port to the RS-232 port of your TGP-5 or TGR-3. |
| 2. |
Your TGP-5 or
TGR-3 must be plugged in, but does not need to be powered on. If it is
off, it will power up automatically when the download process begins. |
| 3. |
NOTE: You may need to disable your
Palm Pilot's "HotSync" or similar software before proceeding.
If you have a Palm Pilot or similar device with "HotSync" or its
equivalent, this software 'seizes' control of a serial port on your
machine and prevents the Sunfire software from accessing that port. Use
another port or disable HotSync.
Now, double-click the "Sunfire TGP-5/TGR-3 RS232 FLASH
Update Vx.xx.exe" application icon on the PC connected to the TGP-5 or
TGR-3. The 'AUTO' mode will detect active COM ports on your PC and
automatically locate the TGP-5 or TGR-3 and begin downloading code. You
can manually choose a COM port if you wish.
|
| 4. |
This process takes
several minutes. |
| 5. |
When completed,
simply quit the program and follow the instructions on the front panel
display of your TGP-5 or TGR-3. |
| |
NOTE: Each new release of software includes all
enhancements from prior releases. You may load the most recent
release without loading interim releases.
NOTE: FOR THE
TGP-5 and TGR-3 ONLY

Software revision history:
| V5.33 |
- Fixed bug that on some units caused the last power setting to not be remembered at AC power up.
|
| V5.32 |
- Fixed bug that caused abrupt power down if a given input had a digital audio signal playing, but source direct was selected, and then the unit is switched to another input with source direct mode selected on that input and a mode up/down was initiated.
- Fixed assorted RS232 bugs: Tuner Scan Up/Down now stops a tuner scan in progress, fixed BCPCM which read as BCDOLBY even on PCM, fixed automatic broadcast of PLIIx modes and Dolby Digital 5.1 modes, fixed new value broadcast of channel trims after a trim up/down command to show which channel the value is for.
|
| V5.29 |
- Fixed bug that caused user settings to not be retained when AC power is disconnected.
|
V5.28
|
- Fixed bug where 1-4 second interrupt in DD5.1 or DTS
5.1 causes mode to stick in muted analog rather than return to digital
feed if 2 channel mode is Stereo or Neo:6.
|
V5.27
|
- Added new mode for DTS5.1 playback which is DTS5.1 +
ProLogic IIx Music. The Mode buttons toggle between DTS5.1 and the new
mode during DTS playback. Note that DTS5.1 ES Matrix and DTS5.1 ES
Discrete still only play one way.
- Fixed Mode navigation bug when going from Neo:6 to Source Direct to Stereo, it skipped Stereo.
- Fixed playback bug in Dolby Digital 5.1 + PLIIx Music
- if your 2 channel mode is Neo:6 then going from Neo:6 to a Dolby 5.1
stream caused Dolby to play in EX mode not DD5.1 + PLIIx Music.
- Fixed bug where Dolby 2.0 in Stereo was playing in ProLogic instead.
- Increased sub output level by 9 dB in Dolby and PCM
modes to match industry practice. DTS remains at the same value per
their license spec.
|
| V5.25 |
- Fixes minor Front Panel menu line error for RSB
delay name.
- Adds *DIMST and *DIMAB RS232 dimmer commands to
RS232
- Adds missing mode status items DolbyD5.1 +
PLIIx Movie and DolbyD5.1 + PLIIx Music for mode queries on *DSPST and
in *GMZST RS232 status commands.
- Fixed volume set to allow max level during
rapid volume changes or volume absolute setting from RS232 (only
applicable when volume level is ranged out from dsp level shifting).
- Fixed Mains forcing to Large after sub noise
cal if noise cal menu is down to one page and Mains are small. Fixed
seamless transition bug (DolbyD5.1 to DTS NEO:6) that caused Neo6 to
play in only left surround and right surround.
